urban forest project opening more
this is our GROW booth, were we had people sign up for trees and do the following.
this banner is the urban forest project logo naked, without any leaves or dots, and the idea was to show support for baltimore's tree canopy and helping trees and to sign one of the dots and put it on the tree. we then took their photograph which will be used in the closing event. below you can see a little boy putting his sticker on it.
we ended up getting quite a lot of people to sign the stickers. the tree is thriving.

urban forest project in baltimore's opening event
a group of us helped plan the urban forest project in baltimore's opening event at the johns hopkins beach. we came up with a concept for it and helped develop the graphics used. below is the main big banner that you can see from the street.
since the whole event is to about the trees and to double the tree canopy in baltimore by having the city donate about 1000 trees to city residents, we decided to use the trees as part of the event. one of the groupings is seen above. there are 5 events that urban forest is doing for the next three months in different parks around baltimore, and since this was the opening event, we decided to promote that with the tree sections. each one is in the shape of a horse shoe with the banner promoting one of the coming events at the top of it. in between the trees were various tables, and at the bottom was a stage where bands were playing.
this is a close up of the banners.
these little circles were put in all the trees and around the older, actual trees that were there. they each had different large dollar amounts, that were to show how much money people would be saving if there were more trees in baltimore. so, if people help the tree canopy grow, then they will be saving money.

sneak peak
these are some images from a book i am going to be making about los angeles freeways. i started this project about a year ago when i was in london, and never quite finished it. the project was supposed to be a cultural project about where you are from, and i chose freeways since they aren't such a prevalent part of life anywhere else but los angeles. in between these images, i collected stories from friends about experiences they have had on los angeles freeways. the stories are all in the person's voice and are like the stories in the book "twillight" (which is about the los angeles riots, but from the perspective of a ton of different people all still keeping the way they talk).
here is one of the stories:
"I had to meet my dad for dinner after work and we agreed to meet at home. As soon as we got on the 5, I decided to see if I could beat him home. I merged onto the 2 thinking I was so clever, and when I excitedly turned onto the main road, I saw my dad pulled over by the cops because his fog lights were on. And then I laughed because I won."
